Research description

The problem of folding proteins — that is, inferring their structure and folding path in 3-dimensional space from the sequence of amino acids they consist of — is perhaps one of the most significant scientific challenges we are tackling in our society today. No general and effective way to solve the problem for all classes of proteins exists using our available tools. Yet, solving the problem could lead to tremendous breakthroughs in understanding and healing diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Parkinson's. It could also help more efficient iteration and development of vaccines, which is timely given the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Interest include:

  • Deep probabilistic programming
  • Directional statistics
  • Protein folding (dynamics)
