On December 1st, a new Ph.D. student - Katarzyna Szczerba joined Team MIDAS and embarked on her 4-year Ph.D. journey. We started the day uniquely delightfully by opening the advent calendar. This small moment of joy set the tone for a day full of promise and new beginnings.
The day was highlighted by an exciting kick-off meeting for her Ph.D. led by our supervisor - Prof. Dr. Christophe Ley, where she had the privilege of connecting with Dr. Andreas Kremer - CEO and co-founder of the industrial partner of her program - ITTM (Information Technology for Translational Medicine), alongside Prof. Dr. Jan Cabri - Director at LIROMS and Dr. Caroline Mouton - scientific coordinator at CHL, and the esteemed Prof. Bernd Grimm, who on the same day gave a talk at the INTER$^2$ seminar that left a lasting impression.
Her journey is made possible by an Industrial Fellowship grant from the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), received in July for the project "LEARNHEALTH - Statistically Enhanced Learning and Federated Learning in Healthcare".
We are delighted to welcome Katarzyna to the team as a doctoral researcher, following her valuable 5-month period as a research intern. We eagerly anticipate the numerous projects and discoveries we will embark on together.
